volume of a box is given by V(x) = 3x3
+ 8x2
– 45x – 50. If one of its dimensions is 3x – 10,
find the other 2 dimensions.

Solution.
Using
Long Division – or Synthetic Division with a
= 10/3 – when V(x)
= 3x3
+ 8x2
– 45x – 50 is divided by 3x – 10, we get g(x) = x2
+ 6x + 5 → (x + 1) and (x + 5) are the other 2 dimensions.
